A1 wall calendar with drawings of a collection celebrating some of my favourite beautiful, edible, useful (sometimes all three) plants that I look forwards to each year, grown on my plot on the Essex/Suffolk border

I am a self-confessed lazy gardener - like most of us I do not like watering and I do not like weeding. Yet I find growing an act of pleasure, and so the trick has been to create an ecosystem that can sustain itself as much as possible. Laziness has brought a beauty to both the plot and the act of caring for it. In leaving plants to go to seed, a community of volunteer plants is slowly establishing, out-competing weeds and bringing back old friends year on year.

Nasturtiums, calendula, Florence & bronze fennel, coriander, strawberries, raspberries, swiss chard, mint, leaf beet, camomile, california, oriental & Iceland poppies, yarrow, peas, broad beans, celery, borage, parsely, sunflowers, dill, courgettes, chervil, marigolds, amaranth, tomatoes, ox-eye daisies and phacelia. All and more are happily making a home for themselves, feeding me still but needing less and less of my time.
